THE LIMASSOL MARATHON GSO 2011 WAS CONCLUDED WITH ABSOLUTE SUCCESS BOTH IN TERMS OF PARTICIPATION AS WELL AS ORGANIZATION!
The Limassol Marathon GSO 2011, was concluded with absolute success and the organizers are pleased of the successful outcome, both in terms of participation as well as organization.
The racing events were:
Marathon
Half Marathon
10K Race
5K Corporate Team Race
Various officials of the City and the Republic were present, among which were Members of the Parliament, the Mayor of Limassol, City Council Members, officials of the Ministry of Education and the Cyprus Tourism Organization and many more.
In charge of the whole event is Spyros Spyrou, member of the Limassol Council and Vice Chairman of Chamber of Commerce, who was extremely happy as his plans to turn the Limassol Marathon into one of the most popular Marathons in Europe are coming to fruition. he was particularly pleased about the fact that more than 1000 tourists travelled to Limassol from all over the world because of the Marathon.

Limassol Marathon GSO is the official marathon of our country, accredited by the international federations of AIMS and IAAF. We are particularly proud of the fact that our Marathon is a lot more than an athletic event of international standards and mass participation. It is primarily an indication of the power of the human will and soul. It is a source of values, social awareness and solidarity. It is a celebration of joy and a celebration of friendship.
Our events include a Marathon, Half Marathon, Health Race, Corporate Race, Student Race and a Charity Run / Walk. The traffic free straight, fast and flat route is ideal for all runners and participants to achieve a personal best and our slogan ‘Run along the Waves reflects the true picture.
Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus and the capital of vitality and hospitality. The organizers, GSO and Olympus Events Management were delighted by the success of last year’s Marathon event on the 28th February, which became the biggest athletic event in the history of road running in Cyprus, with over 1400 participants in all events.
As well as the many Cypriots who took part, there was a big entry from Greece, and runners featured from over 20 countries including UK, Russia, Poland, Romania, Germany, Austria, Italy, Finland, Lebanon, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kenya and Ethiopia.
The Charity Walks encouraged a lot of people to participate, and the total participation fees of these events, was distributed to the following Charities:
Make A Wish – Cyprus
Volunteer Doctors – Cyprus
Europa Donna -Cyprus
People Support Association Alzheimer’s Disease
Children’s Home Nicosia
The Marathon winner was Moses Kibet of Kenya with a PB 2:13:29, followed by compatriots Julious Karinga (2:14:45) and Momanyi Basweti (2:17,19) all of whom broke the old course record. First Greek runner Pavlos Tzanavaras was 13th in 2:35:07. First Female was Russian Natalia Sergeeva in 2:38:56. Second was Hungarian Andrea Tacaks (2:44:19) and third Russian Nadezda Semiletova (2:45:48). All three broke the old record (2:46).
