Limassol Marathon GSO – Cyprus

Limassol Marathon GSO | May 25th, 2010No Comments »

Having managed to earn the accreditation of AIMS and IAAF, the Limassol Marathon GSO is expanding into a big athletic celebration where Marathon runners from all over the world will meet to compete and at the same time enjoy a memorable experience.

The race is a 42k flat run all the way along the soothing sea front coastal road of Limassol, a spirited and cosmopolitan sea side town which offers a rare combination of the sea and a mixture of modern buildings and historical remnants.

The island of Cyprus, the birth place of Aphrodite, the goddess of Love and Beauty, is a destination that effortlessly combines a storied past 11.000 years old with modern European culture. We invite you to experience the combination of sports and exercise with breathtaking scenery that will offer you an exhilarating run of a lifetime.

Cyprus weather in February is perfect for the race as the mean temperature at this point of the year ranges around 15 – 17 degrees centigrade. As February is one of the low-season months, the accommodation and flight prices are quite lower, making the journey to the island for the Marathon excellent value for money!

We wish to offer all participants of our Marathon an unforgettable experience. The races, combined with perfect organizational standards, the friendliness of our people, the loveliness of our city of Limassol and the beauty of our island of Cyprus will indeed make it such.

A stroll in our website pages will provide you with extensive information about the Marathon 2011 events, information about the 2010 event and results, travel, accommodation & transfer options and so much more!

A day of excitement was honoured by the presence of Paul Tergat, former World Record Holder in 10,000m, Half-Marathon and Marathon as a guest, and he was kept busy signing autographs for his many admirers from different countries. He remarked to a reporter that he believed the course was good enough for a very much faster time in the future.

We could not omit mentioning the torrential rain that fell mostly at the start of the events. However, the weather did improve and the winter sunshine came through during the races. The weather conditions created a few complications for the organizers but could not dampen the enthusiasm of Spyros Spyrou, George Karayannis and their helpers, who promised to establish the Marathon amongst the best in Europe. The participants left with the best impressions of the race, the organization, as well as the hospitality of Cyprus.

The Mayor of Limassol, the President of GSO, Mr. Spyrou and everyone involved in the Marathon, were so motivated by the success of the events that they are working even harder to make the Limassol Marathon GSO one of the biggest and popular events in Europe.
