Meet Michael, a true embodiment of resilience and determination. After surviving a near-fatal car accident, doctors doubted his recovery. But at 31, he defied the odds, learning to walk again and embracing running and cycling as avenues for healing.
His journey is a testament to the human spirit's unwavering strength. Michael's dedication extends beyond personal triumph—he cycled 110km to support brain injury awareness.
What initially made you interested in running?
I was drawn to the challenge it presents and its ability to provide a healthy means of socializing with friends.
Tell us your story, why you run.
Following a severe head trauma resulting from a near-fatal car accident in 2006, my parents received a grim prognosis during a private meeting with the neuro-psychologist at the hospital. They were informed that I would likely never work, drive, or lead a normal life again. However, this prognosis only fueled my determination to reclaim my physical health and maintain an active lifestyle. Despite the challenges, including having to learn to walk again at the age of 31, I now regularly run and cycle. I am immensely grateful for my miraculous journey back to life.
Have you ever participated in any races or marathons for a charitable cause? What motivated you to combine running with supporting a cause?
Yes, I cycled 110km for a charity that supports brain injury.
